Sacred Lomi (Hawaiian Temple Kahuna Bodywork) derives from the ancient healing art of Lomilomi. At Ritual, we offer this practice through the loving and powerful hands of Linda Jurca.
Lomilomi is a way of life. It is the practice of living aloha. The word lomi means to kneed or to soothe. It is a traditional and spiritual-based healing massage, originating from the ancient Hawaiian culture.
We respect the culture from which this practice derives and wish to share the history and context of this tradition in all it’s complexity. We hope by offering this work in Seattle we can connect others to the power of this honored philosophy and the healing rituals of Hawaii.
Culture can be defined as a way of life for a group of people; the way they do things passed on by learning. It generates the ground for people to decide on their values and contribute to society in a mindful manner. At its basic yet crucial level, it can create order out of chaos.
The ancient Hawaiian culture regarded their tribe as a whole unit working in harmony with intentional connection to their land. We can transmit this concept of culture further down into our bodies: Sacred Lomi allows us to honor the whole being (body, mind, and spirit). The merging of these inner and outer senses of harmony is the focus of sessions with Linda.
Lomi lomi typically consists of prayer, cleansing, forgiveness rites, breath, energy work, herbology, and fluid head to toe forearm strokes rooted in aloha. It cultivates a huna perspective, a Hawaiian philosophy centered on achieving harmony in mind, body, and spirit. Lomi lomi aims to promote relaxation, improve circulation, address muscle pain, release blocked energy and provide spiritual and emotional benefits, including relief of fear, anxiety, and other negative emotions.
We are each far more than our physical bodies. Our lives, our ancestry and our capacity to positively influence others extends far beyond our conscious awareness.
In Sacred Lomi, we embrace the integrated whole being by creating a space of unconditional love and acceptance. We invite the recipient to completely let go and receive. The flowing, circular runs nurture and embrace, clearing out old patterns and awakening the divine in the physical being.’
